Damar Hamlin Wins NFLPA MVP Honors This Week
Damar Hamlin hasn't seen much field time this year but is still making a difference in the community.
Damar Hamlin is still giving back to the community
Last year after Damar Hamlin recovered from suffering cardiac arrest on the field in Cincinnati, he said that he has always believed he was meant to be part of a bigger picture. In an interview with People he said, "God seen that my purpose is bigger than just football. Way bigger than just football, I always knew that. I've always felt like I was more than just an athlete and a football player and he gave me a purpose and something to stand for that's way bigger than just a game."
He's made that his mantra as he continues to try to give back for being given a second chance at life.
Hamlin wins the NFLPA MVP honors this week
Congratulations to Damar for being named the NFL Player's Association Community MVP for week 18.
What is the NFLPA Community MVP Honor?
The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) wants to recognize players who are giving back to their community. They've been giving out the NFLPA Community MVP honor to one player who has made a positive impact in his hometown or team city each week.
Not only do they get the honor, but the NFLPA makes a $10,000 donation to the player’s foundation or charity of choice so that they can continue to make a difference.
Hamlin is one of two Buffalo Bills to have received the honor this year. Tyrel Dodson was the recipient just two weeks ago for Week 16.
Damar gives back to kids in Pennsylvania
He is being recognized for giving back to 750 kids in Pennsylvania (where he is originally from) by donating more than 2,000 toys, 50 bikes and hundreds of books while dressed as Santa Claus for Christmas. The NFLPA will now make a donation to Damar's Chasing M's Foundation.
