Health Code Violations In Chautauqua County In March

Each month, Chautauqua County has health code inspectors who visit restaurants and other spots with food preparation. The inspectors are tasked with trying to keep us safe. They thoroughly review each restaurant's operations and location to make sure the restaurants are not violating any health codes. Health code inspectors report on critical violations such as "Potentially hazardous foods are not cooled by an approved method where the food temperature can be reduced from 120oF to 70oF or less within two hours and 70oF to 45oF within four hours."

It's important for us to know which restaurants are following the safety rules to ensure that we are not putting ourselves at risk. Earlier this year, in New York City, the health department put out a notice to patrons of a restaurant. They were potentially exposed to Hepatitis A due to improper food handling. A food handler at Ilili Restaurant at 236 Fifth Avenue exposed customers to the virus. While this incident wasn't in Chautauqua County, it is an example of how dining out can put us at risk.
