Health Inspection Results For Allegany County Restaurants

Allegany County has published a list of restaurants that had health code violations during their latest inspections in October. Health code inspectors issue violations for things like "Accurate thermometers not available or used to evaluate refrigerated or heated storage temperatures," or "Tobacco is used; eating, drinking in food preparation, dishwashing food storage areas." Some restaurants are issued critical violations, such as "Potentially hazardous foods are not kept at or above 140°F during hot holding." There were 15 restaurants and other spots, like schools and legions, that did not pass their inspections.

Pasta Sold In New York Recalled Due To Health Threat

Recently, an outbreak of Listeria in prepared food has turned deadly. Six people have died and 27 others have been sickened due to the recall. The pasta recall is for ready-to-eat meals containing pre-cooked pasta that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria monocytogenes is,

"An organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can lead to serious pregnancy complications among pregnant women."

The pasta at the center of the recall was sold at two popular retailers in New York - Walmart and Trader Joe's, according to NPR.
