Genesee County has published a list of restaurants that had health code violations during their latest inspections in July. Foodborne illnesses are a reality in America, even though we have strict hygiene rules. There have been plenty of food recalls and issues at restaurants in the news this year. That's why it is so important to support the restaurants that passed their health code inspections.
Food inspectors visit restaurants and other places that prepare food, like schools, camps, and even jails, each month. Their grades are based on what they observe. Food inspectors are tasked with ensuring that the restaurants are following food preparation protocols that help keep us safe. Violations listed in their reports include infractions such as "Food not protected during storage, preparation, display, transportation and service, from potential sources of contamination (e.g., food uncovered, mislabeled, stored on floor, missing or inadequate sneeze guards, food containers double stacked)," and critical violations like "Potentially hazardous foods are not kept at or below 45°F during cold holding, except smoked fish not kept at or below 38°F during cold holding."
