Governor Cuomo said today (May 5) that no tenant in New York can be evicted for non-payment of rent, via a televised press conference I am watching on CNN. The protection deadline is now through August 20, 2020. He also stated that as that date approaches, it could be extended again. Cuomo expressed his concern for landlords, who may be directly affected by his decision. He said the banks should be helping them and the state is helping the banks.

Landlords won't be able to charge late fees for rent payments missed during the pandemic. Also, renters will be able to use their security deposit to cover payments. The security deposit can then be paid back over time, according to WGRZ.
