Genesee County has published a list of restaurants that had health code violations during their latest inspections in January. Food inspectors visit restaurants and other places that prepare food, like schools, legions, churches, and even jails, each month. Their grades are based on what they observe. Food inspectors are tasked with ensuring that the restaurants are following food preparation protocols that help keep us safe. Violations listed in their reports include infractions such as "Improper thawing procedures used," and "Cooked or prepared foods are subject to cross-contamination from raw foods."

Health code inspectors also issue critical violations like "Potentially hazardous foods are not stored under refrigeration except during necessary preparation or approved precooling procedures (room temperature storage)."
