The radioactive shrimp recall that affected Walmart stores near New York has been expanded. Now, other stores and brands, outside of Wally World, have been recalled due to possible radioactive contamination. Per the Food and Drug Administration, it is actively investigating reports of Cesium-137 contamination in shipping containers. The frozen shrimp products, processed by BMS Foods of Indonesia, were shipped in these containers. They were found at four U.S. ports - Los Angeles, Houston, Savannah, and Miami. The FDA says,

"The product appears to have been prepared, packed, or held under insanitary conditions whereby it may have become contaminated with Cs-137 and may pose a safety concern."

There are now multiple stores involved in the recall.

Southwind Foods, LLC of Carson, California, is recalling some of its frozen shrimp due to possible radionuclide (Cesium-137) contamination. The shrimp, which is bagged and frozen, was distributed to stores in Pennsylvania between July 17 and August 8, 2025.

Thankfully, the other stores and brands connected to the recall are not neighbors in New York, so the likelihood that New Yorkers have bought the shrimp products is low.

In addition to the shrimp added to the recall from Southwind Foods, the original recall started with Walmart's frozen shrimp.

While not sold at Walmart stores in New York, the products were sold at Walmart in Pennsylvania, as well as AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MO, MS, OH, OK, TX, and WV. Since many NY towns are located close to the PA border, shoppers may have purchased an affected product from a store in the state. The products should not be consumed or served. Please throw them away or return them to Walmart for a refund.
