Vacation brain is something everyone goes through, and while you may be inclined to mentally “check out” the moment you leave the office for vacation, you do not want to overlook this part of your trip planning.

By the time you leave the office on your last working day before vacation, you feel like you have everything taken care of, from booking the flight to the hotel and finding a means of transportation. The hard part is over. You’re cruising to vacation from here.
Right?
Well, before you completely check out for the week, you may want to take a look at what you have packed in your suitcase and more specifically, in your carry on.
Whether you are headed for Buffalo or departing from, you should always consider packing these 10 things in your carry on bag.
1. Earplugs
If you have never had to sit next to a crying baby, consider yourself blessed, but be warned: that day will come, so it’s better to be prepared for it and have earplugs ready to go.
2. Face mask
Before you roll your eyes and ask “Is COVID even still a thing?” think about how many times you have gotten stuck next to someone who just does not know how to sneeze or cough into their elbow. Or how about the person that continuously blows their nose in their shirt? On a full flight, when I get stuck next to an Allergy King (or Queen), I would rather have a face mask I can put on, so at least my face doesn’t get sprayed.
3. Sandwich (or snack)
You may have noticed that airlines modified what snacks they give out to passengers on the aircraft. It seems like they have opted for non-peanut things, like chex mix, maybe because peanut allergies can be so severe at times. But if you want to have a hearty meal for your 2-3 hour flight, pack a sandwich. I'm telling you, it hits the spot and it's always what you like!
4. Empty water bottle
Although you cannot take more than 4 oz of liquid through TSA screening, you can bring an empty water bottle and fill it at a water fountain after security and before you board. It really goes well with that sandwich. :)
5. Salt
You may be wondering about the salt...
If you have ever been on a Buffalo flight, you already know that odds are, you will be singing the Bills Shout song. And it can get loud. Bring some salt to make salt water, in case you need to gargle before you land to spare your throat the pain later.
6. Extra Long Sleeve Shirt and/or Jacket
Planes are dramatic when it comes to the temperature. It's either freezing cold or sizzling hot, and in case it's cold, you will definitely want a jacket. However, if it's the latter...
7. Travel Deodorant
If it's extremely warm, I'll be frank: you are going to pit out. Been there, done that, and you know what? No shame, because humans sweat, but it can be uncomfortable without emergency deodorant.
8. Dollar Coin / Silver Dollar
As a kid, I remember always having a dollar coin or a silver dollar handy to give to the pilot when you get off the plane. It can be a cool thing to do not just for your kids, but to let your pilot know you appreciate them!
9. Wear Red, White, and Blue
Even if you are not a Bills fan and you may not own a Bills jersey, make sure you wear something red, white and blue (you should have that!). You'll blend right in if you do!
*also brief disclaimer, yes, I am a Bills fan.
The last thing you should pack for your carry on is...
10. Portable Charger
Not every plane has a charging port, so if you plan on listening to music on the plane, you may want to bring a portable charger in case you need your phone to call your ride when you land.
May your future flights be comfy, quiet yet make you want to Shout!, and have no extreme temperature shifts.
