Flood Watch In Effect in Western New York

Buffalo weather is wild, isn't it?

Over the weekend parts of Western New York hit 11 degrees and now we are going to hit 58 degrees as the high for Wednesday and even HIGHER temperatures are expected on Thursday which may get close to some local weather records.

With all of the sudden, spiking temperatures, that means rain will follow as well. A combination of melting snow and all the rain on the way has caused there to be a flooding warning from the National Weather Service through Friday morning for "potential ice jam flooding in South Buffalo along the Buffalo River and Cazenovia Creek", according to the NWS tweet this morning.

While only South Buffalo is noted in the flood warning around Buffalo. When ice jams happen and the water cannot flow properly, the water rises and will even go into the streets. Some of the common locations across Western New York that have to deal with flooding issues are:

-Cazenovia Creek
-Buffalo Creek
-Cayuga Creek
-Cattaraugus Creek at Gowanda
-Tonawanda Creek at Attica
-Oatka Creek in Warsaw

Before you get too excited though, in true Buffalo, NY fashion the weather will take a turn from the 60s that we may see this week. We will be back down to the 30s by this weekend.
