The winter snowstorm that impacted large parts of the US and paralyzed Western New York is finally over. It will likely go down as the worst snowstorm in Buffalo's history as Winter Storm Elliott dropped a cyclone bomb on the area with hurricane-force winds and several feet of snow.

Almost the entire American midwest and northeast had been hit hard by the winter weather that started on Friday, December 23, 2022. The snow and high winds impacted Buffalo in a major way by bringing whiteout conditions with zero visibility, below-freezing temperatures, and sub-zero windchill which knocked out power to thousands around the area.

The storm also was the cause of several lives being lost and will also go down as the deadliest storm to ever come to Western New York.

Travel around the area was just plain impossible during the storm as many roads were simply impassable, this also was the primary cause for emergency services to not be able to respond to calls for help because nearly 66% of their vehicles stuck in the snow.

More than 4 feet of snow fell at the Buffalo Airport, with various other areas around the state getting at least 24 or more inches of snow. The high winds also have caused snow drifts to be as high as 8 feet tall.

The National Weather Service tracked the snow accumulation around the region and we have the final snowfall totals below.
