Happy New Year! It's 2026! For me, the year flew by. I am happy that I made it to the new year. I love a good reset. Sometimes, the holidays can be overwhelming, but now they are over, and we can move forward. I thought I would share some of the things I learned last year about living life.

I definitely had some rough spots in 2026, like my beloved cat getting hit by a car. There were a few other things that happened that didn't make it a stellar year, but hey, I'm still here. As I get older (and supposedly wiser), I have realized a few things.
1. Loss will happen. It's hard to deal with the loss of a person, pet, or even a job, right? Each of us deals with grief differently, but what is important is that we grieve. Getting through the loss (not over it) is so important to our mental health. Normal human beings will face loss and the grief that comes with it; that's just a fact. The only thing we can do is try to find our way to the other side.
2. The older I get, the more I appreciate waking up in the morning and going to sleep at night. Even if I have a crappy day, as long as I wake up the next day, there is still hope! Sometimes, that gets lost in the sauce, but being alive is a blessing.
3. Money can, in fact, buy you happiness. However, it's usually fleeting. As a reformed shopaholic, I had to realize that the endorphins produced by buying things do not last long. If we can't find happiness within, we will never be able to find it with things.
4. Take the trip, enroll in that class, make that move. Treat yourself and love yourself. Live life. This is a daily struggle for me. Sometimes I am so fixated on the future that I forgo the present. Nothing is promised, not even our future. There is a delicate balance we need to seek. Living life to the fullest and planning for the future. I don't have the formula, but I know that getting the balance right is important.
5. I saved the best for last. Love and treat the people right who love you!
Happy New Year from me to you and your loved ones! I wish you many blessings for 2026! Our mental health is not something to be pushed to the background. It's something we need to focus on daily.
