Curfew Now In Effect For Erie County
According to WIVB, a curfew is now in effect for all of Erie County due to ongoing protests turning violent within the city of Buffalo and surrounding areas. The curfew will be in effect from 10:30PM - 7AM.
In addition to the curfew, a state of emergency has been declared for Erie County. Protests in Buffalo have begun to turn violent, as is the case in many cities around the country following the death of George Floyd, an African-American citizen of Minneapolis, Minnesota who died while in police custody on May 25th.
Conflicting reports are coming in from around the city, but there have been instances of looting and vandalism in addition to some violence.
Per WIVB, citizens began gathering in Niagara Square between 4PM and 5PM. Since then, the protests have spread down Niagara Street and Elmwood, among other locations.
No word on when the curfew will be lifted, but we do know that it will run from 10:30PM on 5/30 to 7AM on 5/31. Anyone caught out without a valid reason will be subject to arrest.
