As we approach Easter, a holiday that usually brings friends, family, and people together, COVID-19 rates are increasing again around New York State. Ever since we started back 'living our best life' again, COVID-19 has been quietly making a comeback in some regions. Governor Kathy Hochul warns New Yorkers to stay diligent during the holidays,

As we approach the spring holidays of Easter and Passover, it’s important we all do what we can to protect our families and reduce the spread of COVID-19. Make sure everyone in your family who’s eligible is vaccinated and boosted. If you’re attending family gatherings or traveling, take a test before and after. And if you test positive, talk to a doctor about the available treatments.

I initially wrote about the rising positivity rates back in mid-March. From Thursday, March 10, to Thursday, March 17, the statewide 7-day average COVID-19 positivity rate increased from 1.44% to 1.76%. As of today, April 7, the statewide positivity rate has basically doubled in less than a month to 3.22%. Some regions have seen a positivity rate increase above 5 percent, which is considered high. The state has previously put restrictions in place in areas with a positivity rate of over 5 percent. The counties with the highest 7-day positivity rates are Central New York, Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley, North Country, Southern Tier, and Western New York.

Six people died on April 5, due to COVID-19.  The hospitalization and Intensive Care Unit numbers increased slightly also from the previous day.

  • Patient Hospitalization - 904 (+19)
  • Patients Newly Admitted - 171
  • Patients in ICU - 120 (+6)

Here are the 7-day average positivity rates reported by the Governor's Office in the various regions around the state for March 10 and April 5, 2022 (the most up-to-date data):
