Christopher Columbus Statue Removed from Buffalo’s Columbus Park
America is slowly becoming what it was designed to be... United. We've witnessed many barriers overcome lately and in the past regarding Black people, however, there are far more Cultures representative of a minority in this country than Black people alone. Now The Federation of Italian American Societies of WNY has come forward to proactively provide a peaceful solution to the removal of the Christopher Columbus statue which has been a mainstay in Buffalo's Columbus Park, according to a WGRZ Breaking News report.
What The Federation of Italian American Societies of WNY is doing is phenomenal and commendable seeing as Christopher Columbus is of Italian descent and a very revered and meaningful symbol of achievement among Italian Americans and their Heritage. In The Federation of Italian American Societies of WNY's proposal remove the statue, they are also requesting that the name of the park be changed...this is what they wrote as it appears on their proposal page on their website.
We demand that the name of Columbus Park be changed! We demand that the statue of Columbus be removed! We demand that you consult Native communities in renaming the park!
Kudos to The Federation of Italian American Societies of WNY for their humble initiative representing the climate of the Nation regarding change and inclusion of all lives in America.
