Cattaraugus County Reveals Health Inspection Results From July

Cattaraugus County has published its health inspection violations from July. Each month, health code inspectors visit various restaurants and other spots - like legions, schools, camps, etc. - and grade their operations, looking for violations.

Restaurants can receive violations such as, "Food contact surfaces not washed, rinsed and sanitized after each use and following any time of operations when contamination may have occurred," or "Food not protected during storage, preparation, display, transportation and service, from potential sources of contamination (e.g., food uncovered, mislabeled, stored on floor, missing or inadequate sneeze guards, food containers double stacked)."

Some restaurants end up with critical violations like, "Potentially hazardous foods are not cooled by an approved method where the food temperature can be reduced from 120oF to 70oF or less within two hours and 70oF to 45oF within four hours."

Recently, in Spain, more than 100 people got sick after dining at a hotel. The food poisoning victims, who include a toddler, are ill with suspected Salmonella after eating at a 4-star hotel. The outbreak began the morning of Sunday, August 24, 2025, after 28 cases of sickness were reported at the Hotel Izán Cavanna in La Manga. The victims suffered from vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever, according to People.

Although this situation occurred in another country, it still underscores the importance of health code inspections in ensuring our safety.
