Major Chain Of Popular Restaurants Closing In New York
Four popular national restaurant brands closed abruptly including some in New York. Based on what the owners of the restaurants said, more locations could be closing.
The four well-known restaurants that closed many locations on Friday, February 1, 2024, are owned by Bloomin’ Brands. They include restaurants many New Yorkers have dined at - Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, and Fleming’s. According to ScapeHero, there are 24 Outback locations in New York State. There are three Carrabba's left in New York - Amherst, Fayetteville, and Rochester. Only two Bonefish Grills are left - Fayetteville and Rockville Centre. While there are no Fleming's locations in New York, some New Yorkers may travel to New Jersey to enjoy the Edgewater location.
According to CNN, Bloomin’ Brands made the announcement on an earnings call on Friday that it closed 41 “underperforming locations.” At least four of them are in the New York area. The Bonefish Grill once located in Secaucus, New Jersey, which is right outside of New York City has been closed according to Patch.
At least three Carrabba’s locations in New York have closed, including two in the Long Island area and one in the Capital Region, according to our sister station WGNA.
A Bloomin' Brands spokesperson told CNN,
Closing restaurants is never easy. This was a business decision that has no reflection on the staff or their service. Many team members will have the opportunity to transfer to open positions at another restaurant. Employees who do not will receive severance.
None of the restaurant closings in New York appear to have been reported to the state via WARN notices. The closings open the door for more potential closings by the restauranteur. The company said it is closing aging locations and plans to open new locations with upgraded technology and dining experiences, as well as more space to accommodate takeout orders.
