7 Of Best Candy Shops In Buffalo To Buy Chocolate For Easter

Easter is quickly approaching on Sunday, April 17, 2022, and you don't want to forget to pick up some chocolate to enjoy. As you are doing your Easter shopping, consider buying from local businesses. The great thing about Buffalo is that you can shop locally and get some amazing chocolate candies. If you wonder why we eat candy for Easter, it apparently has to do with the end of fasting for Lent.

Easter takes place at the end of Lent, a 40-day period of fasting and contemplation for Christians. Fasting was a bit more intense in the medieval world. Meat and animal products (including eggs and dairy) would have been off-limits for all of Lent for most people. Once Easter hit, people would celebrate with a feast.

If somehow you're a Buffalo-native and you don't know about Ko-Ed Candies, what in the world have you been doing, living under a rock?! This is the single best candy store I've ever been in. The candy always looks awesome and tastes even better, and there's a darn-good reason they're famous for their sponge candy! It's simply the best around. In 1962, Mike saved enough money to rent and buy used equipment and furnishings for a candy shop/ice cream parlor in Buffalo. The store slowly grew through the1960's. During this time Mike perfected his various recipes for caramel, nougat, creams, marshmallow and his famous sponge candy. In 1969, Mike and Anna moved to a store in Cheektowaga, New York. They named it Mike's Candy Shop.
