Friends and family remembered India Cummings with a candlelight vigil Tuesday night, according to WGRZ. India died while in custody at the Erie County Holding Center in February 2016. India was taken to ECH after police alleged she was acting irrationally after using synthetic marijuana. She stole a police car and lead police on a brief chase before being arrested.

According to WGRZ, her family believes she suffered "a medical breakdown." The County Health Department issued a report saying she died from undetermined causes.

The family's attorney, Matthew Albert, said "She entered with one injury, which she wouldn't have had but for Lackawanna Police breaking her arm, and then of course she left in much worse shape as we know when she ultimately passed away some five days later. We are not going to rush our experts, but as I said we are expecting a lawsuit to be filed sooner rather than later."

Rest in Peace India!
