Cam Newton Will Provide 1,200 Underprivileged Kids Thanksgiving Dinner
Whatever your feelings are about Cam on the field while he’s suited up for the Carolina Panthers can’t take away from the good he does off the field.
Being no stranger to charity, Cam is throwing his biggest Thanksgiving dinner ever. Last year at his annual “Cam’s Thanksgiving Jam,” he fed 800 kids, according to TMZ. This year, he plans to do it even bigger and feed 1,200 underprivileged kids and their families.
This is Cam’s seventh Cam’s Thanksgiving Jam. The event is more than just a holiday dinner. Families will get to enjoy a night of games, music, face painting and balloon artists.
Of course Cam himself will also be there to personally serve the kids and overall just party with them. What’s really dope? Everyone in attendance gets to take home an additional turkey dinner, because having leftovers is one of the biggest Thanksgiving traditions of all.
“I vowed to myself that if I get put in my position—there’s never enough things that you can do for a community. So nights like tonight are important to me and will forever be important to me,” said Newton at last year’s event, according to the Charlotte Observer. “For this to be important to me and knowing what I mean to so many people in Charlotte, I just want to do right by them. More than just winning football games, but making myself available as a servant.”
In addition to this annual feast for the community of Charlotte, Cam has efforts to show that he’s been about the kids.
Cam also runs his own foundation dedicated to helping children in need and he’s known to frequently host play days to get at-risk youth out and moving.
