In the city that created the chicken wing, you will find no shortage of options for wing connoisseurs to enjoy around Western New York. Being that Buffalo is home to the wing, you can find just about every kind of chicken joint, serving all sorts of flavors to help you fill your belly.

However, there is one national chicken brand that was missing from the 716, which had people asking why. Now it seems those questions are answered and Buffalo's first Wingstop is now open in North Buffalo. The chain chicken wing restaurant, which was founded in 1994 in Garland, Texas, opened its doors on Monday, January 13, 2025, in the M&T Plaza on Delaware Ave, at the corner of Hertel Ave, after several months of development.

Before this Wingstop location opened this week, you needed to travel down the 90 to Rochester or across the border to Toronto to get your fill.

The Wing franchise was opened by Lewis Carter and Howard O’Brien, who already own several Wingstop locations in Rochester, New York. The location at 2305 Delaware Ave was swamped with people as the store served hundreds of people in its first couple of days of operation. Featuring wings, tenders, fingers, and boneless wings that you can get tossed in a dozen different flavors, Western New Yorkers are sure to get their fill.

With so many options for chicken wings in the 716, it makes you wonder who has the best wings in the region. Can a chain restaurant like Wingstop compete with Buffalo-born brands like the Anchor Bar, Duffs, Bar Bill, and others?

Only time will tell.

Are you going to try some Wingstop? If you do, let me know what you think about it.
