Buffalo Winter Parking Rules Go Into Effect This Week
The annual winter parking rule change ritual is going into effect in communities all across Western New York this week.
Buffalo’s winter parking changes start on Wednesday, December 2nd.
So, what exactly does this mean for us in the City of Buffalo?
- Overnight parking on Bus Routes is prohibited between the hours of 1:30 a.m. and 7 a.m.
- Side Streets with daytime alternate parking rules, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., go into effect.
These rules are in place to allow snow plows better access to clear city streets during the winter.
With the return of winter weather to our region, it is very difficult for crews to plow streets where vehicles are parked on both sides in the 9am-4pm Alternate Parking Zones.

According to reporting by WKBW, the City is starting a new pilot program that will allow people to sign up for text reminders as a way to help people remember these rules.
The BuffAlert Parking Update program sends residents a text message or will give them a reminder phone call approximately 24 hours before a particular parking restriction starts.
To sign up, text JOIN PARKINGUPDATES to 30890.
The goal of this free service is to help people remember what needs to be done, and when it needs to happen.
Through this creative initiative, residents can work with the City to make our Alternate Street Parking Assistance Plan work this winter

I know I will be signing up for this program. I always forget when to move my car and I have earned a nice collection of parking tickets to prove it.
