America has been hit hard lately with rough weather, as hurricane season has hit the South and Gulf Coast regions hard. Living in Buffalo and Western New York, we know how bad weather can impact the everyday lives of people. However, this year seems especially rough so far, as the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season has caused some pretty severe damage to communities in the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean regions.

As Hurricane Milton barrels down on Florida and other Gulf Coast areas, the southeast is still trying to dig out and recover from Hurricane Helene, which made landfall on Thursday, September 26, 2024, and left a path of destruction in its wake from Florida, to Georgia and North Carolina.

According to CNN, areas in North Carolina have been completely devastated, and NBC News estimates that more than 200 people have died as a result.

The damage left across the Southeast has left many communities without the basics needed to just get by day-to-day. The level of development in the area has moved two Buffalonians so much that they are stepping up to do something to help those in need. Western New Yorkers are well known for their generosity, and Fawn Hoelcle and Rob McKeever are hoping Buffalo will come through again for our neighbors in North Carolina.
