A man was killed by Buffalo Police Tuesday night. He has now been identified.

A man named Marcus Neal, who recently moved to Buffalo, was shot and killed by Buffalo Police on Tuesday Night, according to WGRZ. The incident, which occurred before midnight on Tuesday, was as a home on Gladstone Street. BPD Captain, Jeff Rinaldo, told Channel 2 that Neal was allegedly shoplifting at the Wegmans on Amherst. Police say that Neal lead them on a chase, then climbed the onto a garage roof. Police allege that he charged at them with a knife, forcing them to shoot him. Neal was shot three times.

"The officers had no room to attempt to retreat. They did an excellent job trying to deescalate this first through verbal commands, and use of pepper spray which had no effect. Unfortunately, the officers were faced with a situation where a suspect is charging at them with a knife in his hand, stating that they're gonna have to shoot him, and it was either fire and stop the threat or possibly fall off the back of the roof with a suspect whose armed with a knife falling on top of you."
