May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Buffalo is kicking off WNY Mental Health Awareness Week, starting May 6. There will be both virtual and in-person events, including Zumba dancing, live discussions, an open mic night, movie watch parties, info sessions, mental wellness activities, and more. Restoration Society Inc. along with BestSelf Behavioral Health, Peer Connection, Renewal Center, Young Leaders and Advocates Network, Mental Health Advocates, and Buffalo and Erie County Public Libraries have put together the many activities.

Mental health is always important, but especially after the last year and a half that we've all been through with the COVID-19 pandemic. So many people have been suffering from mental health issues. If you or someone you know needs mental health resources, Erie County has compiled a list, which you can view here. According to the National Institute of Health, no one is immune to the effects of COVID-19 on mental health. Children, health care and essential workers and the elderly have been hit particularly hard.
