One Of The Greatest Places In The World Is In Buffalo, New York

Whether you realize it or not, Buffalo, New York, is a pretty special place. For many years, It served as a top destination for the rich and famous worldwide.

You can see those remnants all over Western New York. Just take a look at any given street corner in Buffalo, and you'll find all sorts of structures constructed by some of the greatest minds in architecture. Names like Frederick Law Olmsted, Calvert Vaux, Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, Louise Blanchard Bethune, H.H. Richardson, Eliel and Eero Saarinen, and Elbert Hubbard are extremely common.

But it's not just old buildings that give Buffalo a significant position in the world; sometimes, a new construction project shines a big spotlight on the 716, and that exact thing is happening as we speak, thanks to Time Magazine.

The world-famous Time Magazine spent considerable time scouring the globe for the greatest places on Earth.

To compile the 2024 list, TIME solicited nominations of places—including hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums, parks, and more—from its international network of correspondents and contributors, as well as through an application process, with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences.

In their searches, they were looking for the top 100 greatest designations in the world, places that were truly considered extraordinary. Now, while most people would never think a place like Buffalo would make this list, we know better. Thanks to the brand new Buffalo AKG Art Museum, Western New York boasts one of the top places in the world to visit.

Iconic artworks from all the names you know (Cézanne, Brancusi, O’Keeffe) plus a few you don’t but should (Sin Wai Kin, Julia Bottoms) are displayed across the now 50,000-plus-square-foot campus. In addition to a new eatery and a coffee-and-wine bar, Buffalo AKG partnered with the LEGO Foundation to create a dedicated play space for kids.
