The New Trend Taking Over Weddings In New York
There was a day when something like this was highly frowned upon. Honestly, it probably still is, but brides are going crazy for this new trend.
The color of a bride's wedding dress used to have symbolic meaning to it. According to Wedding Know How, f a bride wore a white dress, it was a symbol of purity, innocence, light, virginity and positivity. If they wore a color that was off-white or cream-colored, it was a sign that the bride was no longer pure, and therefore couldn’t wear white but this is no longer a view that people subscribe to.
So...what does it mean if a bride wears a dress that's black?
If you ask me, it's a sign that she isn't really one for tradition and she just wants to do her own thing. She wants to celebrate her wedding the way that SHE wants to celebrate it.
It's becoming more and more popular these days. According to Google Wedding Trends, more and more brides are searching for "black wedding dresses" than just about any other color. In Sept and Oct 2021, “black wedding dress” was searched more than “white wedding dress” on Google.
I would guess that's because most people don't search for a "White" wedding dress at all. They would probably just search for the words "wedding dress." But the interesting part is how many people are searching for black in particular.
David's Bridal never used to keep them in stock. Now they say they're increasing their selection of alternate color bridal dresses.
"They want to wear what they want on their big day. They are picking unique venues, they’re wearing sneakers and having food trucks at their wedding, She also revealed that David’s Bridal increased its selection of differently colored dresses by 30% this year, up from 10% in 2021." - Laura McKeever, senior manager of brand PR at David’s Bridal
I say who cares what color it is? If you want something other than white, go for it! It's YOUR wedding. Everyone will have something to say about it either way. They can do what they want on their wedding day. You do what you want on yours. What you do on that day is just to celebrate the relationship that you will have to work on for the next 50 years! Celebrate how you want. What really matters is what you put into it after the cake has been cut and the music ends and all the guests go home.
