Ironically, both singers / performers are from the very same Group, New Edition, which makes this battle extremely fierce and exciting. Although both are from New Edition, each of these young men have solo careers they've embarked upon.
Johnny Gill's very successful solo career began in 1983 with his first solo release LP simply called 'Johnny Gill' but he didn't have a bonafide hit until his 2nd LP release called 'Perfect Combination' with the release of the title song 'Perfect Combination' performed with Stacy Lattisaw. Johnny Gill was the sixth member added to New Edition and is currently in a new Group called 'Heads of State'....ironically with Bobby Brown and Ralph Tresvant.
Bobby Brown started his solo career in 1986 with the release of his LP called 'King of the Stage' which produced the hit single 'Girlfriend'. The album itself did not do well. Bobby's career continued with many hits and a marriage to R&B Icon Whitney Houston in 1992.
Bobby Brown started the group New Edition at the age of nine with his childhood friends, Michael Bivens and Ricky Bell. As mentioned earlier, in reference to Johnny Gill, Bobby Brown is currently in a new Group called 'Heads of State'....ironically with Johnny Gill and Ralph Tresvant.
