Albany Man Arrested For Manufacturing Illegal Ghost Guns
New York State Police arrested an Albany man who was allegedly manufacturing illegal ghost guns.
Ghost guns are often used by people committing crimes or who cannot legally buy guns as they are untraceable. According to Brady United,
"Ghost Guns are unserialized (and therefore untraceable) firearms that are put together by components purchased either as a kit or as separate pieces. These firearms are fully functioning guns that are as lethal as a fully finished, serialized firearm."
On July 18, 2024, the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit in Albany arrested 21-year-old Rahmeer Nesmith of Albany. New York State Police worked with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and the New York City Police Department - Major Case Field Intelligence Team to investigate Nesmith. A search warrant was executed on Orange Street in Albany by the New York State Police - Special Operations Response Team, assisted by SIU Albany, SP Capitol Troopers, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms – Albany Office, and the Albany Police Department.

During the search, the team found three assembled and loaded handguns, one of which had a Glock switch installed that converts the handgun to a fully automatic weapon. Additionally, they found three handgun uppers/slides, one loaded assault rifle with a 3D printed auto sear block installed to make the gun fully automatic, six 3D printed handgun lower receivers, various tools used to manufacture ghost guns, numerous high-capacity magazines, and ammunition was.
Nesmith was charged with the following
• (1) count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree (Assault Weapon, class D felony)
• (1) count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree (3 or more firearms, class D felony)
• (1) count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree (Machine Gun, class D felony)
• (10) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree (Large capacity ammunition feeding device, class D felony)
• (2) counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree (Major component of a firearm, class A misdemeanor).
He was taken to the Albany County jail. The investigation is ongoing and Nesmith may face additional charges.
