After umpteen bailouts, the Airlines still can't seem to get it together and get their customers to their destinations on time.  Every weekend we hear about major cancellations and horror stories of stranded travelers.  I've read about people missing monumental moments, parents of newborns stuck without formula and diapers, differently-abled people having their wheelchairs get lost and so many other horrific situations. It has gotten so bad that the Attorney General of New York, Letitia James, sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Transportation. She said,

Airlines knowingly advertising and booking flights they do not have the adequate staff to operate are flying in the face of the law. Travelers are forced to miss important events, pay more, or change their entire travel plan because airlines are failing at their most basic function. The skyrocketing number of flight cancelations and delays in airports across the country is unacceptable and travelers have endured too much confusion and frustration. I urge the U.S. Department of Transportation to increase its oversight and regulation of airlines that are skirting the rules and causing disruptions for travelers.

The German-based company, AirHelp, conducted a study about airline delays and which airports in the United States are the worst.

We make claiming compensation straightforward for all passengers who are unsure of their rights, lack the time, or lack the expertise to embark on the claims process themselves. We stand up to airlines in court, and we campaign for national governments to introduce fair air travel rights. We’ve helped countless more through our fight for justice.

According to Forbes, AirHelp studied 37,000 cancellations from May 27 to July 15, 2022, at 400 U.S. airports to create the list of airports with the most cancellations.

The 2 New York-area airports that topped the list of all airports in America are:

2. Newark Liberty International in New Jersey - 7.6%

An AirHelp spokesperson said,

Cancellations can happen for a variety of reasons, but in general we often see a higher concentration of cancellations and flight disruptions at airports that are higher in traffic, which is true for airports in the New York area.
