Most Affordable Housing in the World in Western New York?

A new International housing study, which took a look at housing markets all around the globe, found that one of the most affordable places to live is right here in Western New York.

A new Demographia International Housing study found that one Western New York city did not only top the list in New York State or the United States, but that it is actually one of the most affordable housing cities in the entire world!.

Rochester New York was named the #3 most affordable housing city in the entire world, just behind Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (#1) and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (#2).

How did they come to this conclusion? The study looked at the median house price and median household income from the third quarter of 2021.  Another Western New York city also cracked the top 10, as Buffalo checked in at #9.

They took into account house price data from sources reporting on housing in each nation, official government-produced sales registers, real estate market reports, and pre-tax median household incomes.

The author of the study, Wendell Cox says:

As the pandemic and lockdowns continued into a second year, the movement of households from denser urban neighborhoods to larger homes, often with large yards (gardens) in suburban and outlying areas has continued

International cities Dublin Ireland, Glasgow Scottland, Edmonton, and Calgary Alberta Canada, Several cities in the United Kingdom, and Singapore all make the list.

Rochester and Buffalo are the only cities in New York State to crack the top 50 list as part of the study.
