Wiz Khalifa might have missed out on playing his Idol in the upcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic, but he beat out Detroit artists Big Sean & Royce da 5'9 for Top New Artist at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. Video Inside.

Wiz’s debut album “Rolling Papers” debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart, with first-week sales of 197,000 copies in the United States and entered at number one on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and Rap Albums chart.

The album’s featured lead single “Black and Yellow” which topped the US Billboard Hot 100 and Rap Songs chart, reached six on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and eventually attained sales of 2,342,000 in the US alone.

Lil Wayne took home 4 Billboard Music Awards including Top R&B Song (“Motivation” with Kelly Rowland), Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Album (“Carter IV”), and lastly the coveted Best Male Artist after beating out Justin Bieber and Drake.

After a crowd blazing performance of “Beautiful People,” Chris Brown accepted his award for Top R&B Artist, giving a special Thank You shout out to Team Breezy.

Other win’s included Top R&B Album to Beyonce’s “4,”

Top Streaming Artist to Rihanna, and Top Streaming Video to Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass.”

 Only award that felt out of place had to be Best Rap Song which was presented to LMFAO for their dance hit “Party Rock Anthem.” Since when is LMFAO considered "Rap"
