While it seems like a long time ago, many communities are still seeing impacts from the 2008 global recession. As schools all over the nation faced huge budget cuts, many school systems had to make tough choices when it came to keeping their schoolhouses open. Due to that, many schools had to cut optional items in their curriculum, like sports and art. That was as true in Buffalo as it was across the nation.

Now, even though the economy has improved by leaps and bounds over the last 17 years, many schools' art programs have not recovered to a level that some would deem satisfactory. Because art is so important to many people in the community, one famous Buffalonian is taking steps to ensure one school in his hometown has a top-notch art program.

In a video released on his social media, Buffalo-born rapper, fashionista, and artistic connoisseur Westside Gunn announced a new art program that is going to premier inside a Buffalo charter school.

The GxfR leader is starting the Worthy Hands Art Program at Health Sciences Charter School in Buffalo. The art program, which gains its name from a play on WSGs real name Alvin Worthy, seeks to give kids in Buffalo the opportunity to learn and explore the world of fine art and fashion, just as WSG has in his music career.

Gunn is no stranger to the world of art and fashion as he's been widely recognized for his artistic eye design and fashion sense. Having been featured at renowned art events like Art Basel in Miami, the FlyGod is likely one of the best people in the entire nation to start a program like this.

This especially makes sense since the five elements of Hip Hip have had major cross-appeal with other facets of life, including theater, literature, drama, poetry, art, and fashion.
