The Buffalo and Western New York region has been in the news a little lately as the first major snowstorm of the year hit the 716 and brought a significant amount of snow to the region. Buffalo got its first major snowstorm of the year for many places around Western New York, and it was the first snowfall for many parts of the area.

The lake effect snowstorm that hit Buffalo was so bad at some points over the last few days that state government officials declared a State of Emergency for Western New York and closed parts of the New York State Thruway in both directions around the Buffalo area.

More than 2 feet of snow fell in Orchard Park over the last day or so, giving stadium officials at Highmark Stadium quite a bit of work and not a whole lot of time to do it.

Buffalo's Highmark Stadium, which seats more than 71,000 people, sits on more than 190 acres when accounting for the stadium, parking, and training facilities, is a rather large complex that can collect a whole lot of snow when it falls.

As you can imagine, it's quite difficult to clear more than two feet of snow from 190 acres of land. It takes a huge labor effort to move that much snow in a day or two, but luckily for the Bills, the Mafia is always ready to lend a hand.

Starting on Saturday, November 30th, a few hundred fans descended on Highmark Stadium and were hired by the Bills to work on the grounds crew to shovel snow from the stands and stadium grounds. Hundreds of folks worked around the clock, in three separate shifts, to get the stadium ready. It was just in time for the tarp to come off the field, just three hours before the Bills were set to host the San Francisco 49ers.
