Traffic Stop Leads To 471 Pounds Of Marijuana
A traffic stop last August led to two Akwesasne, NY brothers being charged with transporting more than 400 pounds of marijuana. Today one of the men appeared in federal court and submitted a guilty plea.
Akwesasne resident, 26-year old Tyren Terrence appeared in federal court in Albany on Thursday, May 6, 2021 and pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute the drugs in the New York City area.
The incident occurred on August 21, 2020, when Tyren Terrance and his brother, 27-year old Tevin Terrance, were both stopped by New York State Police on State Route 30 in Mayfield, NY. The brothers were driving two separate vehicles when they were both stopped for various traffic violations.
During the traffic stops, officers could smell a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicles. The smell of marijuana was enough probable cause for the officers to search the vehicles. During the searches, officers were able to confiscate 471 pounds of marijuana in the two vehicles. The drugs were found hidden inside 10 duffel bags.
The brothers were both charged with first-degree Criminal Possession of Marijuana which is a felony offense.
Today one of the brothers, Tyren Terrence, appeared in court and admitted to conspiring to sell the drugs in the New York City area. Tevin Terrance has not submitted a plea yet.
Tyren Terrance is looking at an extensive prison sentence. He is facing from 5 to 40 years in prison and four years to life of post-release patrol. He is scheduled for sentencing on September 2, 2021.
