This is Why You May Not Be Getting Your Unemployment
Many people across New York state have had issues with receiving their weekly unemployment benefits and this might be why.
According to the New York State Department of Labor, there is a step that many residents are missing, which is causing them to not receive their unemployment benefits, according to WKBW. If you have applied for benefits, you must check in weekly, in order to continue to receive payments. The weekly certification process lets the Department know that you are still unemployed.
"If you don’t certify to us that you did not work last week or you only worked one day last week, we don’t know what to pay you.” ~ New York State Department of Labor Commissioner, Roberta Reardon, via WKBW
There is a certification should be done on Sunday, which is considered the last day of the week. To continue to claim benefits, you must certify online or over the phone.
