The late Teddy Pendergrass was born on this day in 1950.  The Lead Singer for Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes launched his Solo Career near the end of the 1970's and was every lady's dream. According to Wikipedia, Teddy was severely injured in a car accident in 1982 which left him paralyzed from the waist down.  Although his injuries left him wheel-chair bound indefinitely, Teddy continued his singing career and founded The Teddy Pendergrass Aliance, an organization that helps people with spinal cord injuries.

Teddy Pendergrass had surgery for colon cancer in January of 2010, and recovered at home,  but went back the hospital weeks later complaining of breathing problems.  Seven months later Teddy Pendergrass died of respiratory failure on Januray 13, 2010 at the age of 59.
