The COVID-19 pandemic started in the United States and New York State in March of 2020. That was roughly 15 months ago. June 15th, 2021 is now a milestone in New York State and a day everyone has been looking forward to.

According to Governor Andrew Cuomo, effective immediately, state-mandated COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted across both commercial and social settings.

What does that mean, however? It essentially means most settings will go back to normal.

Here are the places where the restrictions have officially been lifted.

  • Sports & Recreation
  • Construction
  • Manufacturing
  • Trade
  • Child Care
  • Camps
  • Food Services
  • Offices
  • Real Estate
  • Buildings
  • Agriculture
  • Fishing
  • Forestry
  • Amusement & Family Entertainment
  • Personal Care Services
  • Gyms
  • Retail
  • Malls
  • Movie Theaters

Some guidelines will still need to be followed in large settings, such as events and activities where large numbers of people are gatherings, but this day marks the first that many restrictions are gone from New York State, as the state hit its goal of 70 percent of adult New Yorkers have been vaccinated.

Cuomo encouraged those who have not gotten vaccinated yet, to do so as the state reopens and ends restrictions.
