When I arrived at the South Buffalo Charter School campus, I was impressed by its layout and how spacious it was. The entrance was bright, and the staff seemed very welcoming as I came in. The foyer of the school is quite massive, very open, and gives direct access to the school's two gyms, one of which was very large.

This charter school serves grades K-8 with free education and transportation from any Buffalo zip code and the surrounding areas. The school provides Chromebooks and hot spots (if needed) and embraces a co-teaching model that allows a 10:1 student-to-teacher ratio.

Yes, let that sink in: There's one teacher for every 10 students. I know many parents value their younger children having the personalized attention that smaller student-to-teacher ratios allow, and that's definitely valued here.

South Buffalo Charter School sits on 26 acres. The building had a good auditorium, where I had the chance to listen to the school's choir have its first concert. You could tell the students were taught well.

While taking a tour, I was able to see several classrooms, and I was really happy to see the school has a sensory room for students who may be dealing with various processing disorders. I left the building feeling that this is a great place for people to both learn and work.

Open enrollment is underway for the 2023-24 school year, and applications are due March 31. Learn more and apply online at southbuffalocs.org. To schedule your own tour, just call 716-826-7213.
