As you guys celebrate the Fourth of July weekend, we bring you a new edition of Songs of the Week. Last week, R&B newbie Kehlani made the list along with producer Statik Selektah and pop icon Janet Jackson.
This week, everyone from Fetty Wap and Drake (“My Way” Remix) to Camp Lo have been liberating new tracks on the internet. After mulling through the possible picks, we managed to narrow it down to three winners. Here are your Songs of the Week featuring DeJ Loaf, Action Bronson and Prince. Enjoy.
"Back Up"DeJ Loaf Featuring Big Sean
DeJ Loaf can't stop and won't stop. The Detroit rapper continues to impress with her latest release, "Back Up" featuring fellow Motor City rhymer Big Sean. Produced by iRock, the beat is powered by 808's and twinkly keys, which DeJ and Sean glide over while delivering impressive verses.
"All You Need"Statik Selektah Featuring Action Bronson, Ab-Soul & Elle Varner
Statik Selektah remains one of the most active DJs in the rap game. The producer has released an endless stream of dope music. The boom-bap enthusiast comes through with his latest joint called "All You Need." The songs features cameo appearances from Action Bronson, Ab-Soul and Elle Varner singing on the hook. Soulful and gritty in the same breath, "All You Need" will appear on Statik's upcoming album, Lucky 7.
Prince is back with a new song titled "HardRockLover." Powered by electric guitar riffs and pounding percussion, the Purple One glides over the production while lamenting the state of R&B, as well as courting a lovely lady. With more than 30 years in the game to his credit, Prince is one of the few musicians with enough left in the tank to deliver jams like this well after his peak.
