Come Help Celebrate The Life Of This Legendary DJ and Producer
The family and friends of a legendary Buffalonian whose life had a major impact on the music scene in Buffalo and Western New York are gathering together to celebrate his life and accomplishments.
DJ Shay, the Founder of Buff City Records which was headquartered on Parkside Avenue in Buffalo's Parkside Neighborhood, was instrumental in the elevation of some of the biggest rappers in Buffalo history.
Shay, born Demetrius Robinson, passed away in August 2020 from complications of COVID-19. Since his passing nearly 2 years ago, a group of people who were close to him has gathered together annually to celebrate him and the things he helped to achieve during his life.
RC Enterprise and Dominic & Shamara Robinson are presenting the 2nd Annual ShayDay 3on3 Memorial Basketball Tournament.
The ShayDay basketball tournament is created in part because Shay loved basketball and often watched it with his son Dom.
Organizers have scheduled this year's ShayDay for Saturday, August 20, 2022, at McCarthy Park, on Amherst Street, in Buffalo's LaSalle neighborhood.
The 3on3 basketball tournament will feature multiple age and skill divisions and will have cash prizes available for the winning teams totaling $7,500.
In addition to the basketball game, there will be youth scholarships given away, along with bounce houses and other fun activities for kids, a live DJ, music performances, along with food and various community-focused vendor booths.
Shay, who was also known for his work with the Black Soprano Family and as a Griselda Records DJ and Producer, was an avid supporter of Buffalo. People could often find him volunteering in the community, teaching kids at local schools how to DJ, and spending time at the local YMCA/YWCA.
