Congressman Brian Higgins, Erie County Legislator Howard J. Johnson, and City of Buffalo Fillmore District Councilmember Mitch Nowakowski are hosting a backpack giveaway. They will be distributing supplies to help support children going back to school. Donations of supplies like pencils, markers, notebooks, pencil pouches, sharpeners, erasers, backpacks, folders, personal hygiene items and more were collected from the community and will be given out to families in need.

The drive-through backpack giveaway will be held this Saturday, August 29th at the Central Terminal, located at 495 Paderewski Drive in Buffalo, from 10:00 AM until 12:30 PM, while supplies last. It will be a contactless event.

Fillmore District Council Member Mitch Nowakowski said in a press release:

“Our families need help. Period. By coming together and sharing our resources, we can give school children the extra support they need to be prepared for the upcoming schoolyear, no matter what form it takes. COVID-19 has created an overwhelmingly difficult scenario for the families in Buffalo who must balance work, life, and their child’s education in the midst of a pandemic. I am thankful to my partners in government and organizations who are working together to address the resource gap in the Fillmore District and the wider community.”
