‘Roseanne’ Revival Developing at ABC (Or Netflix) With Original Cast
Oh, the Pandora’s Box we opened with even one sitcom revival. Latest off the nostalgia conveyor belt is none other than Roseanne, which will follow Will and Grace and Fuller House with its own modern revival, complete with original cast.
Deadline reports that multiple networks like ABC and Netflix are circling an eight-episode order for a Roseanne revival, which would include original series stars Roseanne Barr, Sara Gilbert and John Goodman (don’t ask us how that will work), with Laurie Metcalf, Johnny Galecki and more likely to drop by. Original series producers Tom Werner, Barr and Bruce Helford are aboard, with Gilbert joining the ranks.
Interest in the revival stems both from a recent viral reunion with stars John Goodman and Sara Gilbert (visible below), as well as network interest in better reflecting blue-collar America after the 2016 election.
The original Roseanne aired from 1988 to 1997 and famously transformed in its ninth season from a blue-collar comedy to Roseanne’s antics after winning the lottery. The series finale revealed that much of the ninth season (and the series itself) was based on the Roseanne character’s writing; with one notable tweak that Dan (Goodman) had actually died of a heart attack the previous season. Good luck with that one, guys!
We’ll hear more soon, so stay tuned for the latest on Roseanne’s return.
