Rochester NY Mass Shooting Death Toll Increases
The mass shooting that left several people wounded all over a Rochester, New York, park on Sunday, July 28, 2024, has claimed another life.
Initial reports from the shooting reported that one person was shot to death while at least another six people were wounded by gunfire. Now, as more information is becoming available, the death toll has risen to two, and authorities have released the identities of both victims.
According to News Channel 8 WROC-TV, 33-year-old Phylicia Council and 25-year-old Tyasia Manning are the two young women who lost their lives on Sunday.
Manning was pronounced dead at Maplewood Park, while Council was transported to the hospital, where she passed away a few hours later.
While speaking with the Democrat & Chronicle, City of Rochester Mayor Malik Evans described both women as innocent bystanders among hundreds of folks enjoying a summer day in a popular Rochester park. Mayor Evans also confirmed that Manning worked for the City of Rochester.
This shooting has left The Empire State's third largest city in a state of shock as many people were just barbecuing and having a good time inside the historic Frederick Law Olmsted Park.
Investigators with the Rochester Police Department are actively investigating this shooting and are pleading with the public to provide as much information as they can. This can include reports of what people saw and heard and any video or audio they may have recorded on their electronic devices.
