Another Buffalo television news reporter has announced that she is leaving.  There must be something in the water because quite a few have exited in the past couple of years. Kelly Khatib is the latest reporter to announce she has quit her position with Spectrum News in Buffalo.  She made the announcement on Twitter, writing,

LIFE UPDATE: Tuesday will be my last day at Spectrum News Buffalo.I’m going to miss my news family so much but I’m exicited to start this next chapter!!

Kelly's post also included a lengthier goodbye note and a photo with Mayor Byron Brown.  She didn't say where she's headed, but I'm sure she has something new and exciting lined up.

Why Are So Many Buffalo TV News Reporters Leaving?

At this point, I think I've run out of fingers counting how many tv news reporters have left Buffalo over the past couple of years. Here are some of the talented reporters we've lost recently:

Liz Lewin - WGRZ
Shannon Smith - WIVB
Jhas Williams - WIVB
Gabrielle Mediak - WIVB
Mel Orlins - WIVB

I know I'm missing a few, but these are the ones I could think of right now. I wonder why so many news reporters and anchors choose to leave Buffalo. Is it the working environment, the city, or the state? I'm curious because I've seen so many leave recently. It does seem like they all get great opportunities with other stations in other cities, so in the long run, it works out well for them. But what does it mean for Buffalo?
