R. Kelly Denies Allegations, Breaks Down in Tears During Interview
R. Kelly gives his first interview since being charged with sexually abusing underage girls on Feb. 22.
On Tuesday night (March 5), CBS Evening News aired a snippet from Kelly's interview with Gayle King, and in it, the singer vehemently denies allegations leveled against him, with one of those accusations being that he's held women in his home against their will.
"How stupid would it be for me with my crazy past and what I have been through, right now...I think I need to be a monster and hold women against their will chain them up in my basement, and don't let them eat don't let them out unless they need some shoes down the street from their uncle," he says.
At another point in the interview, Kelly claims that all past allegations of sexual abuse he's faced are false. "Not true," he begins. "Whether they’re old rumors, new rumors, future rumors, not true."
Elsewhere in the discussion, he shouts as he declares his innocence. "Thirty years of my career! And y'all trying to kill me? You killing me, man! This is not about music! I'm trying to have a relationship with my kids! And I can't do it! Y'all just don't want to believe the truth! You don't want to believe it!" Kelly says
