R. Kelly’s Crisis Manager Quits After Saying He Wouldn’t Leave His Daughter With Singer: Report
After appearing on CBS This Morning on Monday morning (July 22), R. Kelly’s crisis manager, Darrell Johnson, abruptly quit later that evening.
According to a tweet posted on CBS This Morning's Twitter account on Monday night, Johnson told the news outlet that he's no longer employed by R. Kelly. "I [stepped] down as crisis manager for personal reasons. Mr. Kelly is in good hands with Mr. Greenberg!” he reportedly said.
During his interview with CBS Morning, Johnson told Gayle King that he wouldn’t leave his 20-year-old daughter with anyone who is accused of being a pedophile. King asked, "You have a 20-something-year-old daughter. Would you allow her to be alone with--?"
"Absolutely not," Johnson answered before King could complete her sentence. "R. Kelly?" she finished.
Johnson then added, "I would not leave my daughter with anyone who's accused of pedophilia."
King pressed further and asked Johnson would he leave his daughter alone with Kelly specifically. "I would not leave my daughter with anyone that's accused of being a pedophile. I would not," he said.
Johnson also added that he didn't think it was a “contradiction” for him to publicly defend his client who is being accused of alleged sexual misconduct with underage girls. "I wouldn't leave my daughter with anyone—I'm going to say it again—that's accused of being a pedophile," he repeatedly stated.
R. Kelly, who remains in custody in a Chicago jail, is accused of 18 new federal counts of sexual misconduct, including child pornography, sex trafficking and obstruction of justice, among other charges. The embattled singer faces 195 years in prison on the Chicago charges alone. R. Kelly has repeatedly denied all allegations.
