New York families should expect to pay more money for four popular grocery items. Times are getting tougher, when a lot of people believed they would be getting better. So much for lowering prices on day one. That promise has clearly been broken by the new administration. We're more than 100 days in, and prices continue to rise. During the election, all I heard people complain about was how expensive food and products were. Now, they are even more expensive!

According to USA Facts, the headline inflation rate in the U.S. was 2.3% in April 2025, while the CORE inflation rate is 2.8%. Any working New York family will tell you that it is getting harder, not easier, to buy food and pay the bills. Now, with this major announcement, it's going to get even more difficult.

I've seen a lot of news stories about empty store shelves due to Trump's tariffs, and I've seen a lot of people saying it's "fake news." I went to a Dollar Tree store recently and there were multiple empty shelves. I can't say for certain that it is due to tariffs, but if not, it's one heck of a coincidence.

Four Items Will Be More Expensive At Walmart

Walmart announced that it will be raising prices soon, even though Trump and China agreed on a deal to lower tariffs for 90 days. Walmart's Chief Financial Officer John David Rainey told CNBC,

"We’re wired for everyday low prices, but the magnitude of these increases is more than any retailer can absorb. It’s more than any supplier can absorb."

The funny thing is, there's a certain group of New Yorkers who STILL won't believe that prices are going up. Rainey said that towards the end of May, which is less than two weeks away, prices will increase for four products due to tariffs on Costa Rican, Peruvian, and Colombian imports:
