Popular Grocery Retailer Closing All Stores In New York
Shoppers in New York will need to find another place to buy their bulk groceries soon. Costco has been in the news a lot lately after standing on business and refusing to end its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives. Despite the efforts of those people boycotting the grocery and retail chain, it is thriving. Thankfully, there are enough people in New York who still support providing jobs to veterans, women, the disabled, the elderly, and other marginalized groups. Who knew that employing people with diverse backgrounds would be so controversial, but the climate of hate in America is unfortunately at an all-time high.
Aside from the haters, Costco is considered a great place to work. According to MarketingScoop.com, Costco‘s minimum starting wage is $17 per hour for entry-level jobs. That's higher than the current minimum wage in New York State. The minimum wage in New York City won't hit $17 until next year, on January 1, 2026.

Another benefit of working at Costco is that employees get certain holidays off so they can spend time with their friends and families. Not all retail workers get holidays off. Costco closes all of its stores for 7 days every year. This year, Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 26. On that day, all Costco stores will be closed. If you need to do some grocery shopping, you'll need to plan to find another store. Below are all the holidays on which Costco will close its stores.
