Philadelphia District Attorney Indicates Meek Mill’s Conviction Could Be Overturned
It looks like there is a good chance that Meek Mill may receive the legal win that he has been fighting for, as the Philadelphia District Attorney's office has submitted an important filing, provided to XXL, that could indicate his conviction potentially being overturned.
According to the filing regarding the Wins & Losses rapper, who is currently serving two years in prison, reads that “there is a strong showing of likelihood of the Petitioner’s conviction being reversed (in whole or in part)." The D.A.'s office also reportedly is not opposing Meek's petition for bail, which could potentially result in his release from prison in the near future.
The new filing addresses the Philly entertainer's original bail petition filed on Feb. 14, where they discuss Meek's arresting officer Reginald Graham being on a list of corrupt cops, questioning the validity of his testimony, as well as Meek's original changes from his 2008 verdict.
Meek's attorney, Joe Tacopina, issues a statement in response to the D.A.'s new filing, sharing his enthusiasm for Meek's "immediate release" on bail.
“We are very pleased with the District Attorney’s filing today stating that he is not opposing Meek’s immediate release on bail, and that there is a strong likelihood that Meek’s conviction will ultimately be reversed in whole or in part," he states. "We look forward to his immediate release by the court on bail in light of this development.”
The rapper's mother, Kathy Williams, also responds to the news, thanking the Philly D.A.'s office.
“I would like to thank the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office for carefully evaluating my son’s matter and not opposing the request for bail," she explains. "The fact that Robert’s [Meek Mill] entire conviction could be overturned is a blessing and I pray that God gives Judge Brinkley the wisdom to make the right decision and allow my son to return home to his family. I truly believe justice will prevail.”
Hopefully we can see Meek's release from prison in the near future, but we will keep you updated on his case's status.
