Governor Cuomo signed a new law on Tuesday, making all tobacco purchase and use illegal for anyone under the age of 21, per WGRZ.

The law was signed as an aggressive step to reduce addiction to tobacco products in teens, and the hope is this will lead to fewer lung-related deaths over time as less and less of the population purchases tobacco products.

New York became the 17th state to raise the tobacco age to 21, and the change is intended to cover everything, specifically targeting cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and vaporizers.

The change will take effect 150 days from when the law was signed.
